Nexus Specialty Hospital is expanding its nationally recognized wound care program with the opening of Nexus Specialty Clinic, a hospital-based wound care clinic in Shenandoah, Texas. Nexus Specialty Clinic will offer comprehensive, state-of-the-art wound care treatment and therapy for out-patients with complicated, non-healing wounds and chronic illness.

Nexus Specialty Clinic specializes in the treatment of the following wound types: pressure ulcers, neuropathic diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, arterial and venous wounds, and compromised skin and/or wound conditions. The Clinic’s outpatient wound care clinic is an extension of Nexus Specialty Hospital’s successful inpatient wound management program. With a facility healing percentage of 98 percent, Nexus’ evidence-based wound care protocol has been nationally recognized with a Gold Seal of Approval™ by the Joint Commission as well as recognized as noteworthy by the DNV.

Nexus Specialty Clinic will be led by an interdisciplinary team of wound care physicians who are board-certified in Family Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Osteopathic Medicine, Podiatry, and Wound Care. Services provided include surgical debridement, pulsatile lavage, autologous platelet grafting, application of bioengineered skin substitutes, negative pressure wound therapy, and patient/ caregiver education.

“Nexus Specialty Clinic fills a void in the community by offering a continuum of services that emphasizes an interdisciplinary team model backed by a proven, evidence-based wound management program,” explained Cindy Mostaffa, Nexus Specialty Hospital CEO.

“We opened Nexus Specialty Clinic in response to community demand. Nexus Specialty Hospital is known for its specialized and procedural-based wound care, innovative treatment protocols, and improved healing rates. Nexus uses advanced therapies and proven clinical protocol to successfully treat complex wounds that have previously resisted healing. Unfortunately, we noticed that patients would be discharged from Nexus Specialty Hospital healing well, only to end up back in the hospital months later due to lack of or inadequate follow-up care,” Mostaffa disclosed.

“Nexus Specialty Clinic is designed to address this issue and serve as a referral resource for community physicians. After wound patients are discharged from the hospital, they can continue to receive the same level of high-quality wound treatment and therapy that Nexus is known in an outpatient setting. Local physicians can refer their chronic cases to us, and together we can develop a treatment plan that circumvents debilitating health problems and prevents life-threatening infections. The ultimate goal is to minimize hospital admissions by decreasing wound reoccurrence,” Mostaffa continued.

When Nexus Specialty Clinic patients require advanced support, our staff physicians can readily leverage all the benefits of Nexus Specialty Hospital -- dieticians, infections disease specialists, , neurologists, pulmonologists, physical, occupational and speech therapists, radiologists, plastic and vascular surgeons, and state-of-the-art imaging technology -- ensuring a seamless continuity of care and improved patient outcomes,” Mostaffa concluded.

As a valued added service, Nexus Specialty Clinic will also provide spinal cord injury consultations, post-acute follow up, and annual assessments. Patients diagnosed with spinal cord injury (SCI), brain injury, stroke, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy are at an increased risk for pressure ulcers and other wounds.

Located in a newly remodeled facility at 114 Vision Park Blvd., Nexus Specialty Clinic will feature dedicated exam and treatment rooms designed to accommodate bariatric patients and their family members in a friendly, compassionate, and welcoming setting. Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 5:00. For more information or to refer patients, call 713-482-3390.
