aecKnowledge and the AIA California Council (AIACC) announce the release of the 2011 AIACC Design Awards Video. For the first time ever AIACC is celebrating these projects with a narrated, online high-definition video, hosted on aecKnowledge.
Since 1982, the AIACC has celebrated outstanding architecture through the AIACC Design Awards program. “This is an exciting new step for the Design Awards,” stated Nicki Dennis Stephens, Hon. AIACC, LEED Green Assoc., Senior Director, AIACC. “Now the creativity, innovation and excellence of California architects can be enjoyed by design enthusiasts everywhere.”
Twenty-nine projects were selected by jury for their outstanding design and innovation. Winning projects were diverse in size, scope, budget, and typology...from mixed-use towers in Guangzhou, China (designed by SOM) to a "small project"--the Fung Shui cube (designed by SPACEFLAVOR) as a mobile space to maximize the "chi" of the area. Each of the projects was recognized for its original approach to solving problems—whether a difficult site, a limited budget, or a challenge to reuse existing buildings in new ways.
According to Michael Strogoff, FAIA, Founder + President, aecKnowledge, “Every year, the AIACC Design Awards highlights the diverse and innovative designs of California. Capturing these incredible projects on video provides design professionals everywhere with the opportunity to learn from and get inspired by some of our nation’s top design talent.”
