Now, therefore I Antonio R. Villaraigosa in recognition of the Hollywood Christmas Parade’s 80th Anniversary do hereby proclaim Sunday, November 27, 2011 as Hollywood Christmas Parade Day in the City of Los Angeles.

LA City Council President Eric Garcetti, Council Member Tom LaBonge, LA City Controller Wendy Gruel, Lieutenant General Pete Osman, USMC (Ret), Parade Grand Marshall Marie Osmond, Parade Hosts Erik Estrada and Laura McKenzie, SVP Programming at Hallmark Michelle Vicary, President Hollywood Santa Parade Bill Lomas, Author Services representative John Goodwin and Santa Claus, were on hand as Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa presented a Certificate of Congratulations for the Hollywood Christmas Parade’s 80th Anniversary. The presentation took place at Author Services, Inc., the green room host for the parade.

The certificate reads:

Whereas, The Hollywood Christmas Parade formerly known as the “Santa Claus Lane Parade” was started in 1928; and
Whereas, in 1946 as singer-songwriter Gene Autry rode down Hollywood Boulevard on his horse he was inspired by children shouting “Here comes Santa Claus, Here Comes Santa Claus” and wrote the hit Christmas Classic “Here Comes Santa Claus”; and
Whereas, during World War II the parade took a brief hiatus but came back in 1946 to record attendance; and
Whereas, during the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s the parade continued to grow adding a variety of floats, animals and bands; and
Whereas, the parade is currently televised internationally on the Hallmark Channels and the Armed Forces Networks, further establishing Los Angeles as a destination city for the rest of the world;
Now, therefore I Antonio R. Villaraigosa in recognition of the Hollywood Christmas Parade’s 80th Anniversary do hereby proclaim Sunday, November 27, 2011 as Hollywood Christmas Parade Day in the City of Los Angeles.

The Mayor, Council Members and over 120 other celebrities participated in this year’s parade which saw attendance doubled over the previous year. The Parade will be broadcast as a two-hour prime time special on the Hallmark Channel, Monday, December 12 at 6PM Pacific.
