Tommy Chandler, an American flying ace, and Lady Caroline Barkley met and fell in love in England during World War II. After the war, Lady Caroline follows Tommy to America, where his Air Force career takes him first to Wright-Patterson in Ohio, to be trained as a test pilot. The two marry and begin a family. Their first child is born in Florida.
When the Korean War erupts, Tommy is ordered to take a squadron of the new F-86 Saber jet fighters to engage the Soviet-made MiG-15 in combat. His required 100 missions are fraught with danger and success as he becomes one of the first jet aces.
Tommy is shot down twice in combat; the second time, he is forced to parachute behind enemy lines. It will take all of his skill and training to evade the enemy patrols and keep from being captured despite his injury. Will he be able to make it back to the UN lines? Will he be able to return to Florida and Lady Caroline, and their second child?
About the Author
Indiana native Jack Conrad was born in 1928 in a small rural town in the southern part of the state. In his 20th year he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was trained as a meteorologist. He served four years on active duty in weather stations in the U.S., the Caribbean and ultimately in the western Pacific and Korea during that war. An avid interest in aviation led Conrad to earn a pilot’s license and enjoy many hours aloft over a span of 30 years.
Conrad made a career change later in life and has been writing fiction for several years, producing five literary works. The subjects of these are eclectic: action adventure, fantasy/supernatural, murder and historic aviation.
