Having sold, at last count, 450 million copies and having been translated into 67 languages, J. K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” books have transcended into pop culture phenomena. Minus the hard numbers of sales, the series has also spurned softer returns – inspiration. “I’ve always liked to read, but upon reading the “Harry Potter” books, I knew that I wanted to be an author,” says Owen Spendlove, whose debut book “Stanley Brambles and the Pirate’s Treasure” (published by iUniverse) was recently released.

Spendlove, who realized his aspiration of becoming an author, has produced the first of what will become a series of Stanley Brambles books. And like Rowling, Spendlove has created a character that resonates with the young and the young at heart.

In “Stanley Brambles and the Pirate’s Treasure,” readers meet 12-year-old Stanley Brambles. Stanley is an average kid. He lives in the boring, small town of East Stodgerton, has a regular family – a mom, a dad, and a dog – and his life is one long routine. But all that changes one day when he meets his great uncle, Jackson Warrington Lee. Rumor has it that Uncle Jack was once the most feared pirate to ever sail the Seven Seas – and now Stanley wants to uncover his secrets.

While “Stanley Brambles and the Pirate’s Treasure” is geared toward young adult readers aged 11-15, adults too will find much to treasure.

“‘Stanley Brambles and the Pirate’s Treasure’ is full of fantastic high‐seas adventure,” writes Spendlove, “(complete with sea monsters, of course), humor, mystery, and a bit of magic thrown in for good measure. The book’s colorful, engaging characters and exciting storyline should appeal to fantasy (and pirate) enthusiasts of all ages.”
