One tuna recipe at a time! Tonnino, a gourmet tuna brand, is asking a bold question: Is turkey really all that for the holiday season? It may be a little far-fetched for most tunas, but in Tonnino’s case an argument can be made: It’s wild caught, hand packed and boasts 6 flavors. It’s also the auto-proclaimed Gastrosophic* tuna of the tunas.

Tonnino is making people think twice about the traditional "hero" of the holidays.

So it’s nothing personal against the turkey, but being true to form, Tonnino is always looking for ways to push the envelope.

That's basically the whole point of Tonnino vs Turkey: a contest that asks gastrosophers (and aspiring ones) to put their creativity to the test and come up with personal recipes for the holidays using Tonnino (visit for more information). In the process Tonnino is making people think twice about the traditional "hero" of the holidays. Why you ask? Because there’s tastiness in variety.

Tonnino also created a character, "Earl the Turkey", who is picking a fight via Twitter (@EarlTheTurkey) because he's basically outraged of the notion that his status is being poked at.

At the end of it all, it's all about adding excitement to the kitchen, creating new possibilities and more importantly, rewarding the people who actually know how to incorporate it in original recipes: The winner of the contest will receive a personal Tonnino Tuna supply for all 2012.


*A gastrosopher is a gourmet that tastes food with the palate AND the conscious, meaning that they know where the food comes from, if its production is socially and environmentally responsible and if it's healthy.
