Affiliated Auctions Three Day Auction Event To Include work by Jasper Francis Cropsey!

Affiliated Auctions, North Florida & South Georgia's Premier auction house, will hold a three day auction event on December 2nd-4th, 2011, which will feature a fine original oil painting by renowned Hudson River School artist Jasper F. Cropsey.

Jasper Francis Cropsey (American 1823-1900) taught himself how to sketch and draw. He was trained as an architect and studied watercolors at the National Academy of Design under Edward Maury and did his first exhibited there in 1844. He married and traveled abroad before returning to America. He was a member of the first generation of the “Hudson River School” and co-founded the American Society of Painters in Watercolors.

His work can be found in many museums including the National Gallery of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, art museums in Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver as well as in The White House. Cropsey and his wife are buried in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

The work is Greenwood Lake and measures 21 by 35 inches. In its original frame it measures 31 by 45 inches overall. The work was painted in the 1890’s shortly before Cropsey died.

This particular work will be included in a three day auction event. In addition to the Fine Antique and Collectibles Auction, Affiliated Auctions will put on a Friday Night Discovery sale on the 2nd and a Military Auction on the 3rd.
