David Price, an architect with national and international experience in recreation, entertainment, industrial and urban design, has joined VSI Architects as a lead architect. His first VSI project, Pinon Hills Community Church, has already won a LEED Award.

When the average attendance at Pinon Hills jumped from 500 to 1300, the church leadership found new land and developed a master plan for a worship center, child development center, student center, retail area, and retirement community. The church also pursued Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification, an internationally-recognized assessment of sustainable and “green” building design, construction, and operation.

Price worked with the church to maximize the conservation and sustainability features which include open space, a “cool roof” membrane to reflect solar heating and minimize energy loss, filtration of storm-water runoff, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, and energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning systems.

“The need for greater environmental accountability is not going to lessen in the future,” Price says. “It’s a good thing for churches to say, ‘We’re part of this broader community and we should be reflecting a higher standard commensurate with our role as a community leader.'”

Price’s previous work includes town center “heritage” plans for the cities of Brea, Perris, Napa and Lompoc in California; water-themed resort communities in Indonesia and Japan; and “Camp Snoopy” at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio.
