Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Detroit (SVdP) announces the Society will partner with WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 for an 18-hour telethon on Thursday, December 8, 2011

Now in its fifth year, St. Vincent de Paul's More for the Poor Telethon is the Society's single largest combined fundraising and marketing effort.

The demand for assistance and services for our neighbors in need is greater than ever” said William Brazier, the Society’s Executive Director. “Every donation, no matter the size, will help feed a family or provide them with warm clothing.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Detroit (SVdP) announces the Society will partner with WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 for an 18-hour telethon on Thursday, December 8, 2011. The Honorary Chair of the event, Mr. Art Van Elslander has been a friend of SVdP for many years, providing for the Society’s Van Elslander Family Center after the building was destroyed by fire in 1995. Other partners for the five year-old event include First Catholic Credit Union, Sisters of Nazareth, Askar Brands and WDTW-FM 106.7 “The D”, which will be running an on-air text messaging campaign the week prior to SVdP’s telethon.

St. Vincent de Paul’s More for the Poor Telethon will kick off during Channel 7’s early morning news at 5:00AM and wrap up at Midnight, with additional coverage during WXYZ’s newscasts at Noon, 5, 6, 7, and 11:00PM. Viewers will be able to phone in donations throughout the day to phone lines staffed by SVdP volunteers as well as make online donations at any time by visiting https://donate.svdpdet.org.

All funds collected during the Society’s Annual Telethon will be used for direct assistance for local families in need. SVdP’s services include food pantry’s, clothing referrals, utility assistance, a youth summer camp program, and counseling through home visits to low income households.

Viewers may donate with a credit card or make a pledge by calling 1-877-STVINCE on December 8th. In addition, a gift can be made by visiting St. Vincent de Paul’s online giving page at https://donate.svdpdet.org, or by texting the word “DONATE” to 91067 starting today.

Brazier said the Society will not be accepting clothing, furniture, or household items through this telethon, but that those types of donations are always welcome and can be dropped off at any of the Society’s eleven thrift stores throughout Southeast Michigan.
