Its ease of use, along with its ability to be a comprehensive online process for our administrators, is what sold us on this system." -Jane Kearley, Director of Human Resources, Lafayette Parish School District

Louisiana school districts have responded to impending state-level teacher evaluation requirements by implementing cloud-based software to automate their evaluation process. The software from Netchemia, LLC called TalentEd Perform will manage the evaluation process and generate the necessary reporting that districts will need to provide to meet the requirements of Louisiana’s Act 54.
St. James Parish School District, which serves nearly 5,000 students in southern Louisiana, was the first Louisiana district to purchase TalentEd Perform. Lafayette Parish School System, a district of roughly 30,000 students soon followed. These thought-leading districts saw the need to stay ahead of the Act 54 requirements by getting an automated system in place that can not only manage their current evaluation process, but can adapt easily to current and future Act 54 components. In addition, these districts saw enormous time-savings and efficiency in the ability to manage walkthroughs and observations online, easily monitor compliance, and track the evaluation process to ensure principals are not falling behind.
The Act 54 statute, which begins with the 2012-2013 school year, requires that all educators be formally evaluated on an annual basis. The intent of the statute is to increase the effectiveness and accountability of schools and educators, but Louisiana districts have realized that there will be added strain that the requirements will place on district and school administrators.
“When we realized the amount of extra time that Act 54 would require of our school administrators, we knew that we would need to find a way to make the evaluation process as easy and efficient as we could for them,” said Jane Kearley, Lafayette Parish Director of Human Resources. “When we looked at various software programs to help us with this process, TalentEd Perform was the one that seemed to be the right fit for us.”
TalentEd Peform, which is a part of Netchemia’s TalentEd platform of talent management software, customizes to the evaluation forms and processes that a district uses for teacher evaluations, and evaluations for all other positions within a district. As states have increased requirements and regulations dealing with the evaluation of educators, TalentEd Perform has seen rapid adoption across the U.S over the past year. TalentEd Perform has also demonstrated momentum with districts that see the strong correlation between talent management and student outcome.
TalentEd Perform will allow St. James Parish, Lafayette Parish, and other Louisiana school districts the opportunity to conform their evaluations to COMPASS, Louisiana’s Comprehensive Evaluation Model, and allow their administrators and principals the ability to easily manage walkthroughs and observations on an iPad or other mobile device.
“Its ease of use, along with its ability to be a comprehensive online process for our administrators, is what sold us on this system,” said Kearley.
ACT 54 incorporates value-added teacher evaluation components that are being heavily discussed nationwide including student growth measurements. It also features other more traditional evaluation components such as classroom observations.
