Mark Rangel Director of Migrant Education Newcomer Academy and Coordinator of Federal Programs for the Fort Morgan School District (Morgan County RE-3) is scheduled to be a presenter for a webinar on Thursday, December 8th, 2011 for The Colorado Refugee School Impact Grant Program.
The Webinar is about Refugee Newcomer Education: Establishing Refugee Newcomer Centers and Classrooms: Reflections, Successes, and Challenges will be held from 3:30 - 4:30 P.M. on December 8th.
Presenters include: Mark Rangel - Director Migrant Education Newcomers Academy/ Coordinator of Federal Programs, Morgan County School District Re-3; Michelle Buchi - ELA Resource Teacher/ ELA Compliance Officer, Place Bridge Academy, Denver Public Schools; Robert Madison - World Languages Faculty, South High School Newcomer Program, Denver Public Schools.
Presenters will share a brief overview of the newcomer program that they are involved in, curricula that is in use, reflections and present successes, challenges, lessons learned, along with promising practices in refugee education for elementary, middle, and high school settings. A question-and-answer period will follow the presentations, along with a discussion period for consideration of additional issues and solutions raised by session participants.
Educators across throughout Colorado, who work with refugee youth and families are invited to participate in this free interactive webinar. Also invited are: school staff concerned with the intersection of education and refugee student learners; district administrators and school personnel interested in development of Refugee Newcomer Education classrooms and centers; ELL and school support staff; Colorado Department of Education; and Community stakeholders.
Accommodations are set up for only 25 participants. Please register early. Certificates of Completion for 1 clock hour for documenting CDE recertification credit will be provided upon request.
