With the impending physician shortage and cost pressures facing healthcare, Midmark is committed to enabling efficient care delivery wherever health care can be delivered most effectively.
Versailles, Ohio (PRWEB) December 08, 2011
Midmark Corporation, a leading medical solutions provider, announced that it plans to collaborate with Qualcomm Life Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, to wirelessly integrate Midmark medical devices onto the 2net™ Platform.
Midmark is working with Qualcomm Life to enable an existing home health product to transmit health data wirelessly using the 2net Platform. The first product selected by Midmark for evaluation of this technology is the Midmark SleepView® Monitor, a product Midmark recently released in collaboration with Cleveland Medical Devices, Inc. The SleepView Monitor enables diagnostic testing for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in the patient’s own home, providing a convenient and cost-effective alternative to an overnight stay in a sleep-lab.
The mHealth, or mobile health, space is growing as more patients, physicians and caregivers seek the ability to monitor and manage health beyond the walls of the physician office. Wireless technology enables more efficient care delivery as health data can be securely transmitted, monitored and interpreted without having to wait until the next trip to the doctor’s office.
“Collaborating with Midmark will open the door to creating wireless devices and innovative solutions for healthcare providers that can potentially increase access to care and improve health outcomes,” said Rick Valencia, vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Life. “The 2net Platform will enable Midmark to take their products to the next level.”
The Qualcomm Life 2net Platform is technology-agnostic and designed to enable secure end-to-end connectivity between medical devices and cloud-based data centers to wirelessly deliver medical device data quickly and easily between device users and their healthcare providers. The platform allows seamless data connections with medical devices by removing the complexities of working with multiple mobile carriers and of maintaining connectivity and storage capabilities at the device level.
“With the impending physician shortage and cost pressures facing healthcare, Midmark is committed to not just enabling efficient care delivery within the exam room, but wherever health care can be delivered most effectively,” said Dr. Thomas D. Schwieterman, Midmark’s medical director. “By testing wireless technologies with medical devices such as SleepView, Midmark’s goal is to enable physicians to practice better medicine as data can be collected from outside the office and analyzed ahead of the next encounter with the patient.”
