In his new book Skeptical: Show Me the Evidence – Then I’ll Believe (published by iUniverse), author Bob Moores defends scientific naturalism and critical thinking against creationism and mystical thinking.

Skeptical will appeal, the author says, to “…readers who are concerned about species and environmental destruction.” He continues, “…those who think biology is too complicated to understand, and those who may be worried about spending eternity in hell will like this book. Religious fundamentalists will not.”

Moores attempts to show readers how recent scientific discoveries, especially in biology, are more exciting and uplifting than any form of Scriptural mythology. Using simple language, he explains the significance of DNA and why a scientific theory is more than a guess. He argues that modern humanistic values are superior in many ways to those venerated in ancient texts. He shares his belief that humans are both the greatest threat and greatest hope for the preservation of life on Earth.

Moores hopes that Skeptical will challenge readers to consider views that may be uncomfortable to some, but still broaden their perspectives in a good way.

“Human beings must give up their tribal instincts and unite,” Moores contends, “if we are to solve the problem of keeping our world a viable home for all living things.”
