When Studio City’s own “gentle giant” Clay Clement returned to the spotlight as an author of the children’s book “Pirate Santa,” he had no idea that his labor of love would be so well received in such short a time. Clement alias Talderoy and his co-author Cap’n Slappy (co-creator of Talk Like a Pirate Day) alias Mark Summers are officially premiering the now celebrated children’s pirate picture book, “Pirate Santa” at the Studio City Farmer’s Market on Sunday December 18th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in Studio City, CA. Clement, owner of the award winning Studio City Tattoo, Los Angeles’ favorite destination for skin art, is already known for celebrity clients highlighted by Miley Cyrus, Will I am (Black Eyed Peas), Kirstie Alley (Dancing with the Stars), Cher, Tommy Lee, Slash and Lenny Kravits. Most recently Josh Kelly was in to get his first ever tattoos - the names of his wife Katherine Heigl (star of NEW YEAR’S EVE), 32, and their daughter Naleigh, 2. In keeping with the family oriented festivities for the holidays, Clement has decided to give back to the community that has applauded his business and his book by supporting the Turning Pages Foundation at the Studio City Farmer’s Market. Studio City Tattoo is now sponsoring a book drive for the foundation as well as providing musical entertainment, sword fighting and gifting kids with 200 free “pirate” rubber duckies, 50 or so free “pirate bandanas” from Sea Wolf Clothing, assorted giveaways and free group photos with Pirate Santa.

The book drive will begin on Wednesday, December 7th at Studio City Tattoo where a special “pirate chest” will be ready for any book donations from patrons and Studio City residents. Farmer’s Market patrons will also be encouraged to bring children’s books and donations for the Turning Pages Foundation. For each book that is donated to Turning Pages on Sunday, patrons will receive a raffle ticket that will be eligible for a drawing for free books and prizes that will be held throughout the event. At a recent meeting Clement was pleased to form a very special holiday alliance with Executive Director- Gail Craven and Lynn Stuart from Turning Pages who are excited about being “honorary pirates” for the holiday event. The Turning Pages Foundation is a non-profit organization established in North Hollywood, California in 2010 by Gail Craven who is a local teacher.(http://www.turningpagesfoundation.org) Their mission is to bridge the resources within the community and local schools to develop and support academic, enrichment, and leadership programs. All Turning Pages Foundation projects are conceived by and instituted by youth leaders and include peer tutoring; composting and gardening; selling sprouted seeds at the Farmers’ Market; volunteering at local homeless shelters, food banks, and urban farms; fifth grade community council; summer leadership; writers’ coop; and the art room at Lankershim Elementary. The connection was encouraged by the Studio City Chamber of Commerce and promises to be beneficial to kids and families throughout the Valley communities.

Volunteers will be in attendance dressed in fun pirate garb to lead kids in several craft activities. Children’s performers highlighted by sword fighter’s/ children’s entertainers Paul Jacobson and Michael Triplett from Best. Party. Ever. (Nickelodeon’s Parents Pick 2010 & LA Parent’s Best of 2011) alongside the musical Mister Mac the Pirate are sure to give kids and adults a rollicking good time. Custom pirate hats by Jeff Mackay of the reality show, “A Pirate’s Life” from Capt. Jack’s Pirate Hats will be worn by some of the performers. Pirate Santa comes to town with majestic throne flanked by two tridents custom built by Rene Gleason of Roses and Daggers Productions. Two amazing pirate ships created by Claridge Woodworks will be in attendance to decorate and enhance the festivities. Fans of Syfy’s hit “Neverland” can come out and meet the legendary Tony Swatton of Burbank’s Sword and Stone (Hollywood’s Sword Maker to the Stars) to catch a glimpse of one of the hooks Swatton made for the movie HOOK. And Pirate Santa’s own artist Jun Alvarado will also be in attendance to sign books along with Clement and Cap’n Slappy/Pirate Santa. Top fashion advertising fine art photographer Michele Clement from Studio Clement will be the event’s chief photographer.
