The Circle of Care Burn Foundation (http://www.circleofcareburnfoundation.org), devoted to improving the lives of burn survivors and their families, recaps 2011 as a year of success and betterment for patients.

Starting with the First Annual “The Ultimate Trunk Show,” which was held on October 20th, where actor and motivational speaker J.R. Martinez was presented with the “Spirit of Hope” award, the Circle of Care Burn Foundation made 2011 a year to honor burn survivors who inspire others with their actions. Since being burned while serving as a United States Army infantryman in the Iraq war in 2003, Martinez has dedicated himself to taking his message of resilience and optimism to burn survivors struggling to cope with their injuries.

2011 also marked a time where the Circle of Care Burn Foundation raised over $400,000 at the 8th Annual Dream on Canvas, which brought people together for an evening of entertainment and support for a noble cause. Other milestones included outreach on behalf of several children and teens with serious burn-related injuries. One such patient, 19-year-old Derek Thomas, suffered burns over 85% of his body, due to a car crash that claimed the lives of four people and left Derek on the brink of death. With the support of the Circle of Care Burn Foundation, Derek – and others like him – had the resources to manage their recovery with encouragement and inspiration.

Linda David, CEO stated, “The Circle of Care Burn Foundation made 2011 a year of notable accomplishments, uniting people on behalf of our longstanding efforts to help burn survivors and their families. We look forward to upholding and expanding on these achievements in 2012. I further wish to thank my colleagues and medical professionals who enable us to fulfill our mission with the highest of standards.”

Dr. Richard Grossman, Founder of COCBF and the Grossman Burn Centers said: “COCBF is a critical means of unity for burn survivors and their families. Through the foundation’s work, individuals have an ally in the road to recovery. I applaud CCOBF as an institution worthy of the highest respect and admiration.”

COCBF provides assistance to burn survivors and their families. In addition to its close ties to the renowned Grossman Burn Centers, which it supports through direct patient assistance and other programs, COCBF is expanding its programs and its reach to include all of Southern California.
