MONROE, Ore. (PRWEB) December 13, 2011
More than one million animals are given up each year in the United States, whether to shelters, animal control or abandoned on the side of a road, writes author Ig Mobly. The reasons vary, from owners having too many pets, to owners moving or being deployed, developing allergies and passing away. This new book, 101 Reasons to Get Rid of Your Pets! Really???, which began as a journal, details things to consider before getting a pet as well as what to think about before giving a pet away.
101 Reasons to Get Rid of Your Pets! Really??? includes practical advice such as thinking about lifestyle and time limitations before getting a pet. Other things to consider before adopting a pet are finances, medical issues, home environment and personality. Someone who hates to exercise, for instance, shouldn’t adopt a dog that needs lots of walking and running to stay healthy. The author offers heartfelt, practical suggestions on what to do if a pet doesn’t work out, providing examples from her work at a veterinary clinic and animal shelters. Although some stories are sad, she includes those with a happy ending – pets who gain a new life when adopted by a loving family willing to expend the time, money and effort of caring for an animal.
The author, a licensed teacher, worked at a veterinary clinic for 11 years and at an animal shelter for six years, managing it for five years. She has written articles for the local newspaper and curriculum packets for college credit. She and her family live on a 30-acre farm with four dogs, two horses and seven cats – most of whom were abandoned, not adoptable or had previous owners.
