10 local Austin races, 55 total Ks, more than $10,000 contributed to great causes, untold positive energy and personal bests

Announcing that it's running at a faster pace at any company in Austin, the region's fastest growing small business showed up in full force at the final 5K of 2011.

Nothing can compare to the opportunity to support great causes in Austin while leading a company of individuals who set and achieve consistently higher goals.

Sporting t-shirts that read: “Running at a faster pace than any company in Austin!” the Charfen Institute’s 2011 “Running Tour” will wind down on Sunday, December 11, as 35 participants from the 70-person company join in the Brown Santa 5K.

The December 11 event is the 10th race this year that the Charfen Institute has participated in as a company—resulting in the largest presence from one company in at least half of the following races:

  •     Statesman CAP 10K, March 27
  •     Ash Dash 5K Bunny Run, April 23
  •     Girls on the Run 5K, May 14
  •     Caleb 5K, July 16
  •     Team Jaylie 5K, Aug. 13
  •     Casa Superhero 5K, Sept. 25
  •     Dash for Dad 5K, Oct. 22
  •     Run for the Rovers 5K, Nov. 6
  •     Lights of Love 5K, Dec. 2
  •     Brown Santa 5K, Dec. 11

In a year when the company raked in an impressive collection of awards and accolades, including the Fastest Growing Small Company in Central Texas for 2011, and No. 21 on the 2011 Inc. 500 List of the Fastest Growing Private Companies in America, Alex Charfen, CEO, asserted, “nothing compares to the opportunity to support great causes in Austin while leading a company of individuals who set and achieve consistently higher goals.”

Over the course of 2011, dozens of the Charfen Institute employees ran in their very first competitive race and proceeded to become serious runners, sparked by the energy and enthusiasm for the races.

A participant in eight of this year’s 10 races, Lucius Alexander, software developer, managed to drop more than 100 pounds and quit smoking within that timeframe. “It is great to be a part of a company that is so focused on charitable giving,” Alexander said. “What I like about the races, is that we have the opportunity join forces with others in the community who are committed to great causes, while doing something positive for ourselves. That kind of energy radiates into other areas of your life.”
