Today, Sycuan Golf & Tennis Resort, an award-winning golf resort just 24 miles inland from downtown San Diego, announced that its annual golf club and equipment drive, Clubs for Causes, would kick off today.

Local businesses such as Dick’s Sporting Goods, East County Golf, Berry’s Athletic Supply, Fairway Golf, Sportland Team Sports, and others will host the Sycuan collection bins in their stores, to collect gently-worn golf clubs and equipment. At the end of the month, the donations will be sold through the Father Joe’s Villages organization, and all of the proceeds will go to aid San Diego’s homeless through their various programs and services.

“For many of us the holidays are a joyous time, centered on family meals, gifts, and celebrating this special time of year,” said Doug Kacena, director of marketing for Sycuan Golf & Tennis Resorts. “With a difficult economic backdrop, though, there are thousands of men, women and children in our own community of San Diego who are struggling to put food on their tables or find safe and stable shelter. We’ve always admired the great work of Father Joe’s Village and its various programs and initiatives aimed at helping those at need. We are honored to have them as the beneficiary of the Clubs for Causes.”

“Father Joe’s Villages is dedicated to providing food, shelter, and resources to those in need,” said Sister Tricia Cruise, President of Father Joe’s Villages. “It is our hope that through Sycuan’s Clubs for Causes, we can make the holidays a bit easier for those that are less privileged.”
