Old Bridge Cellars is pleased to announce its expansion into New Zealand with the introduction of Greywacke to the US market. As of December 1, 2011, Old Bridge Cellars will undertake all US sales, marketing and PR activities on behalf of Greywacke, who joins the established portfolio of artisanal, family wineries.

Established in 2009, Greywacke is the Marlborough label of Kevin Judd, one of the region’s most acclaimed winemakers whose name is intrinsically linked with Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc through his pioneering work with Cloudy Bay. Greywacke is named after New Zealand’s prolific bedrock and was originally adopted by Kevin and his wife Kimberley as the name for their first Marlborough vineyard in Rapaura, whose soils had a high prevalence of these rounded river stones. Today, Greywacke sources fruit from mature vineyards within Marlborough’s central Wairau Plains and the Southern Valleys. Also an established professional wine photographer, Judd’s home overlooking Marlborough’s picturesque vineyards provides inspiration for both his passions.

“While we remain committed to providing Australia’s best regional wines, we see the benefits of extending our philosophy to other world-class wine-producing regions around the globe,” said Rob Buono, President, Old Bridge Cellars. “Whether from Australia, New Zealand or elsewhere, our focus is to provide the US market with authentic wines from passionate winemakers.”

The core offerings from Greywacke feature Sauvignon Blanc (SRP $19.99), ‘Wild Sauvignon’ (SRP $29.99) and Pinot Noir (SRP $39.99), though Judd also produces limited editions of Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay. Most of the Greywacke source vineyards are farmed organically and are in conversion to becoming certified organic by New Zealand’s Bio-Gro program.

“Kevin Judd is the winemaker who pushed Marlborough wines onto the world stage through his integral role as Founding Winemaker at Cloudy Bay. You could say he wrote the rule-book on what ultra premium Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand should taste like, whether it be his stainless steel or barrel fermented renditions. Now with Greywacke, Kevin is applying 25 years of hard-won experience and taking his wines onto a higher plane altogether. It's like finding that “a-ha” moment in a category you thought couldn't surprise you,” adds Gavin Speight, Wine and Marketing Director, Old Bridge Cellars.

Throughout the coming months, Old Bridge Cellars will be working closely with its distribution partners to provide a national footprint for Greywacke.

“I am thrilled to have had such an enthusiastic response to Greywacke in other key markets and delighted to have found the right US partner in Old Bridge Cellars - clearly they understand the market for premium wines from this part of the world and I feel honored to be the first Kiwi label in their portfolio” said Greywacke Proprietor/Winemaker Kevin Judd.

Old Bridge Cellars is a leading sales, marketing and importing specialist based in Napa, California. The portfolio is recognized for its collection of benchmark, regional estates that include d'Arenberg, Leeuwin Estate, John Duval, Penley Estate, Giant Steps, Innocent Bystander, Kilikanoon, Jasper Hill, Cullen, Shoofly, Stickybeak, Brokenwood, Plantagenet and Yarra Yering.
