After conducting a nationwide executive search led by healthcare leadership solutions firm B. E. Smith, Weirton Medical Center in Weirton, W.V., has hired Sherry Zisk to fill the role of chief nursing officer. A seasoned healthcare executive with more than 25 years of executive leadership experience, Zisk assumed her new duties at Weirton Medical Center on December 5, 2011.

Prior to joining Weirton Medical Center, Zisk served as an interim/transitional leader at University of Virginia Children’s Hospital in Virginia, where she led the operational redesign of a large pediatric clinic with 30 physicians, more than 17,500 annual visits and nine sub-specialty faculty practices. The bulk of her career was spent at Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she served in progressively responsible roles over the years, including chief nursing officer, chief operating officer and vice president. Zisk completed a master’s degree in nursing education and a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Pittsburgh. She holds an ANCC board certification as a Nurse Executive, Advanced, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American Nurses Association.
