Startup Tennessee director lauds Emma’s contribution to innovative national program

Startup America’s goal is to work with tens of thousands of startups by the end of 2012, and it’s our goal to help as many of these companies as we can pursue email marketing more simply and affordably. -Clint Smith, Emma CEO

Emma, Inc., a Web-based communications service that helps small and midsize businesses manage their email campaigns, newsletters and online surveys, yesterday announced a national partnership with the Startup America Partnership, an organization working to help young companies grow and create jobs in America.

Emma is offering Startup America firms six months of free service followed by a lifetime discount of 20 percent, plus a free customizable email template. Emma will also serve as an official provider of email services for Startup America.

“We know the fast-paced, entrepreneurial lifestyle well. In eight years, Emma has grown from an idea two guys talked about over coffee into a national company with offices in five cities and tens of thousands of customers,” said Emma Co-founder and CEO Clint Smith. “Having trekked – as much as any company can – out of our startup phase, it’s our hope that this partnership will help other startups better communicate during this make-it-or-break-it time.

“Startup America’s goal is to work with tens of thousands of startups by the end of 2012, and it’s our goal to help as many of these companies as we can pursue email marketing more simply and affordably,” Smith added.

This announcement was made at a meeting of the Startup America board at the White House yesterday.

“Timely, targeted and effective communication is essential to the success of startup companies, which is why Emma’s offer is so important,” said Michael Burcham, president and CEO of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center and director of Startup Tennessee. “Emma does an outstanding job of helping small companies make the most of email marketing – and not just e-newsletters, but videos, surveys and other rich media that will give Startup America companies the edge they need. All of us at Startup Tennessee are honored that a company from our region will be providing such important services to thousands of Startup America companies.”

Startup Tennessee is the second regional initiative working with Startup America. A leading region, last month Tennessee hosted the first Startup America regional summit to collaborate with other states on setting up and running a Startup America operation.

Other Startup America corporate partners announced today include NetSuite and Regus.
