Michael K. Ryan, President of CastleLyons Corporation, was recently asked to serve as a real estate expert witness in the judicial proceedings involving a defunct banking institution. Mr. Ryan was selected as the ideal candidate to provide expert testimony for the FDIC due to a long history of over 40-years in the real estate Industry and a wealth of experience in other expert testimony cases. In addition to being involved with several complex cases throughout California, Mr. Ryan has also provided expert testimony in other jurisdictions, such as the States of Colorado, Utah, and Hawaii. His qualifications are further supported by an MBA received from the University of Southern California in 1971, a California Broker’s License and a General Contractor’s License. He is a member of the Forensic Expert Witness Association and an associate member of the San Diego Bar Association.
For the FDIC testimony, Mr. Ryan was asked to share his expertise on a number of matters directly related to the case at hand. He explained the relevant real estate entitlement, development, and standard of care issues that the case involved. Also, Mr. Ryan created a development risk analysis and a feasibility assessment for securing the entitlements and infrastructure for the proposed massive master planned community. In addition to investigations directly related to the case, Mr. Ryan also provided his opinions on how real estate Industry standards and customs of practice play a role in the necessary “duty of independent inquiry” required by real estate investors and bank borrowers. The expert testimony team included Mr. Ryan for entitlement and development issues, as well as, a banking expert, a MAI evaluation expert, and a CPA damage expert.
Combined with his educational background and his 40-year tenure in the real estate Industry, Mr. Ryan has also demonstrated his expertise by working directly in the field of development and homebuilding. Over his career, he has built 2,000 homes and presided over $1 billion of real estate transactions. In addition, he has served as General Contractor for 25 projects and has developed over 6,500 residential lots. Given Mr. Ryan’s educational and professional background, combined with his “real world” experience, he is an excellent choice for any real estate litigation matters or expert witness testimonial needs.
