The online deals sector is maturing, and our research has clearly identified that people are becoming tired of untargeted emails, yet they don’t want to miss out on potentially good deals.
London, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 13 December 2011
Recent research (1) conducted by Buyometric (http://www.buyometric.com), the intelligent deals aggregator, has revealed that over half (52 percent) of all subscribers to online discount deal providers receive five or more deal emails per day.
Drilling down further, half (50 percent) of those who receive a high volume of emails think this is too many, and two thirds (67 percent) state that they do not always read them; when asked why, the most common answer (at 59 percent of respondents) was because the deals provided are not of interest. Only 1 in 10 of those receiving five or more emails a day thought the emails they received were ‘very targeted’.
In response to these issues, Buyometric, which searches out and categorises the best online offers from daily deal websites such as Groupon and KGB Deals, has joined forces with technology and media company, Pouncer Media, to launch ‘DealPouncer’.
An industry first, DealPouncer is a desktop app which delivers targeted daily deals directly to the consumer’s desktop, without them having to open their email inbox. The app only appears once per day, when the user has relevant matching deals according to preferences set by the user in advance. It provides a discreet ‘pop up’ notification, and then remains minimised until such time as it is needed. Users can also set reminders, which means they can act on a relevant deal at a time to suit them – making sure it isn’t missed.
Commenting on the launch of DealPouncer, Paul Fisher, founder and managing director of Buyometric, said: “The online deals sector is maturing, and our research has clearly identified that people are becoming tired of untargeted emails, yet they don’t want to miss out on potentially good deals.
“We have launched DealPouncer in a bid to stem the flow of email into people’s – already cluttered – inboxes.”
Patrick Knight, founder and CEO of Pouncer Media, added: “DealPouncer will appeal to people who still want to receive attractive deals, but in a less intrusive and more targeted manner. I also firmly believe that it will work towards increasing purchasing rates in the sector, as subscribers can set reminders on deals they like the look of and act on them at a later date, as opposed to missing them – which is often the case in email format.
“There will always be room for daily deal emails, but creating the first desktop widget will address a sector of the population now beginning to experience ‘email fatigue’.”
The DealPouncer desktop application can be downloaded for Windows at http://www.dealpouncer.co.uk, where an online demo is also available. Following the BETA trial, the app will also be available for MAC in early 2012, and a mobile app will also be launched at a later stage next year.
Buyometric used SurveyMonkey to survey 1,011 subscribers to daily deal email alerts, not limited to the Buyometric subscriber base. The survey was advertised using Facebook and all responses were collected between 21 November and 2 December 2011. 97 percent of respondents completed the full survey.
Notes to editors
Buyometric (http://www.buyometric.com) is the smarter way to find daily deals – sourcing offers from over 50 national and regional UK deal websites, and summarising them in one personalised email a day.
Obsessed with the individuality of the site’s subscribers, the Buyometric team does absolutely everything it can to work out what users want, from running them through picture quizzes to postcode analysis. The system continuously learns what subscribers want by monitoring their actions on the website and assimilating this into a rich ‘Buyometric’ profile, unique to each user. This obsession is paying off: Buyometric has some of the highest customer engagement figures in the industry, highlighted by its email open rates and sales conversions.
Buyometric also helps its subscribers to get the most out of daily deal sites by assisting with any problems they have buying, or redeeming daily deal vouchers. And, as a result, the company has a growing loyal subscriber base.
The business was launched in October 2010 after founder, Paul Fisher, set out to solve the problem of untargeted deal emails. Buyometric was profitable within eight months of launch and is based near London Bridge.
