New York, New York (PRWEB) December 14, 2011
The Manhattan Cartel http://www.themanhattancartel.com have just released their debut EP on December 13th, 2011. Vocalist Elinor Arwyn and guitarist Aaron Strand are a song-writing pair who rebel against auto-tuned club hits and coffee shop Indie pop, reviving the unabashed soul of traditional blues and take no prisoners heart of rock ‘n’ roll -- with modern wit. Both have serious stage chops, having performed at notorious after-hours theatre The Box, renowned off-Broadway house La Mama, in a variety of artistic disciplines (music, dance, acting, costume design, stage tech). Still, they retain a sense of humor about themselves and the world around them that reflects a sensibility beyond their years. An upcoming issue of New York fashion magazine, That's Alright Mamma, features the band and international trend-setting fashion blog, The Sartorialist recently gave the duo a coveted shout-out. Arwyn and Strand site their sound as directly influenced by Dolly Parton, Led Zeppelinand Lightnin Hopkins, and have already rubbed elbows with the likes of Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, Michael Stipe, Estelle, Mos Def, and Ja Rule.
The Manhattan Cartel also just played a sold-out performance at Westway, NYC, hosted by fashion magazine That's Alright Mama, and Chrystie141, hosted by Ralph Lauren model Tyson Beckford. With up coming performances on Friday, December 16th at The production Lounge, 113 Franklin Street, #1, Greenpoint Brooklyn at 8:00pm, and Saturday December 17, at Galapagos Art Space, a weekly floating Kaberet variety show, at 10:30pm, where they will be the featured band, located at 16 Main Street, Dumbo Brooklyn.
New York's Elinor Arwyn, the band’s vocalist and lyricist, is a walking contradiction; a femininity evocative of old Hollywood with a brazen New York world-view, her voice is completely her own. She is a drummer with classical voice training who toured Eastern Europe as a soloist with a gospel choir. Arwyn's lyrics and musical sensibilities are filled with her love of Shakespeare and Eminem, Madonna and Janis Joplin, as well as the priceless anecdotes and wisdom that one only acquires earning the title of downtown "it" girl in New York nightlife.
Aaron Strand grew up in Southern rock n' roll capitol, Athens, Georgia, and plays like it. The poise of a gentleman with an appetite for danger, Aaron has channeled his voice into the blues guitar which he has been playing for 13 years. Following a tradition set forth by Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Jack White, Aaron fills each song strong, biting rhythm and seamless transitions to smooth, soulful solos.
With a music video being released in late January, it is obvious this insanely talented blues rock duo is headed straight for the top!
