“When the market is this volatile, investors often make quick decisions they think will help them in the short-term,” said Nathan White, Paragon’s Chief Investment Officer. “These decisions usually hurt them in the long-term.”

Paragon Wealth Management’s investment advisors gave investors tips on Paragon TV today to help them survive in an extremely volatile market like the one we’ve experienced recently.

“It’s been really tough the past few months because we’ve been in an extended period of volatility,” said Dave Young, president and founder of Paragon Wealth Management.

“Historically the markets have always been volatile. However, for the past six months the level of volatility has been extreme. This market environment is much more difficult than normal, and makes it very important for investors to have a good, long-term investment strategy in place.”

“When investors have their investment strategy in place that they are committed to follow, they are less likely to make costly mistakes,” said Young. “It is important for investors to avoid changing their strategy when the market is this volatile.”

The market has continuously swung back and forth since August 2011. There have been 14 back and forth swings since August with daily moves of as much as five to six hundred points on the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

“When the market is this volatile, investors often make quick decisions they think will help them in the short-term,” said Nathan White, Paragon’s Chief Investment Officer. “These decisions usually hurt them in the long-term.”

White said the market usually goes down during periods of market volatility. When the volatility subsides, the market usually goes back up and is followed by more volatility.

“Short-term decisions made within a long-term framework are usually always wrong,” said Young. “You must avoid making changes to your portfolio based on short-term market action. “
Young said it is also important for investors to determine their asset allocation based on their individual risk tolerance.
