For giving and self-gifting, made in America is how shoppers are giving back this holiday.

Wearing and giving products that are made in America has become a form of self expression, says Marcia Maizel-Clarke, Dogeared's owner and designer.

As the holidays get closer and the shopping heats up, the demand for gifts that are made in America grows. This trend, along with the practice of self-gifting, as originally reported by the National Retail Federation, are major contributors to the increase in holiday spending.

"Wearing and giving products that are made in America has become a form of self expression," says Marcia Maizel-Clarke, Dogeared's owner and designer. "It makes a statement about a person- that they care about where their material things come from and know what they're made from. The fact that Dogeared is 100% made in America adds a value to our products that goes beyond price. It's meaningful to our customers that their purchase supports the U.S. economy and creates local jobs, and it's incredibly important for Dogeared to be able to stand by our commitment to be made in the U.S.A."

Dogeared Jewels & Gifts has been creating one-of-a-kind, handcrafted designs in Los Angeles for 20 years, and important holiday gift guides across the media have featured Dogeared along with other brands that are made in the USA. According to a variety of sources, including retail buyers, this is more critical now than ever before.
“Part of the beauty of Dogeared is that their pieces are personal treasures that are made in the USA,” said Jay Landa, of J Silver Jewelry in Houston, TX. “Our customers love knowing that their purchases are supporting American companies and workers, and it really adds to the sentimental value and meaning. These are gifts that they love to give and to keep.”

J Silver Jewelry, along with other retailers including Ron Robinson/Fred Segal, and Bloomingdale’s, have hosted Dogeared Create Parties, where customers can make personalized necklaces.

"We have carried the Dogeared line for over 15 years," explained Karen Meena, VP Merchandising for Ron Robinson. "Our customers value unique, handcrafted designs. Dogeared’s Create line is perfect for our store and our shoppers love being able to create personalized works of wearable art. Custom, along with American-made, are important business drivers right now."

With the Create line, launched just in time for holiday shopping, customers can design their own necklaces using any combination of custom charms, gems and birthstones, lucky numbers and symbols.

Dogeared is committed to decreasing its environmental footprint. All sterling charms are 100% recycled silver, and catalogs, cards, and packaging are printed on mixed sources. The company works with domestic suppliers and casters who share their environmental commitment, and all the jewelry and gifts are handmade in Dogeared’s Southern California studios.
