Author Solutions’ Book-to-Screen PitchFest Authors Pitch Story Concepts to Paula Wagner

(ASI), the world leader in indie book publishing, today announced that two authors from Book-to-Screen PitchFest New York have been selected to pitch their story concepts to famed Hollywood producer, Paula Wagner, for development consideration by her company, Chestnut Ridge Productions.
“The Eyes,” written by 13-year-old Natasha Carrharris, was pitched to Ms. Wagner last week, and Natasha is eagerly awaiting her response. “I’ve never been so nervous in my life. It was incredible; we spoke for over 30 minutes!” said Natasha. “She listened to my pitch, then we talked about the story and how to make it even better. All I can say is, even at 13 years old, it was the experience of a lifetime.”
“The Eyes” is a high school drama with a horror twist where a young girl’s reoccurring nightmare involving an eerie and ever-present pair of eyes ultimately personifies itself in the form of a high school bully, whose mission is to torture her. The novel plays on contemporary themes regarding bullying and confronting fear—themes that have helped garner attention for the book.
Alyson Mead’s pitch is themed around her latest book, “Searching for Sassy: An L.A. Phone Psychic's Tales of Life, Lust & Love.” Mead, a psychic since childhood, has been reading people since the age of 19 and has spent the intervening years honing her abilities with certifications at the highest levels in astrology, Reiki, Matrix energetics, neuro-linguistic programming, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and sound healing. “Searching for Sassy” will be available in print and in eBook format in early 2012.
"PitchFest was an intense whirlwind of an experience, but with plenty of help and support along the way,” said Mead. “I'm so excited to pitch to Ms. Wagner, and pretty psyched about all the additional opportunities that seem to arise on a daily basis."
Over 150 authors attended Book-to-Screen PitchFest New York, where they were each given the opportunity to turn their books into brief pitches designed for Hollywood studios. In speed-dating fashion, the authors were each given two minutes to deliver these pitches to representatives from participating entertainment companies. The two authors whose pitches received the most positive response were selected to pitch to Ms Wagner, whose credits include “Mission: Impossible” 1, 2 and 3, “The Last Samurai,” “The Others” and “Vanilla Sky,” to name a few.
