San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 16, 2011
National recording artist Kelley James – widely acclaimed for his quick witted lyrics over acoustic guitars, hip hop beats and freestyle flows – will be the featured performer at the all-new “Rock Ball Presented by Waste Management” at the PGA TOUR’s Farmers Insurance Open. The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Century Club Pavilion presented by Centerplate located on the 15th green at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito.
Peter Ripa, tournament director of the Farmers Insurance Open and incoming executive director of The Century Club, said the “Rock Ball” would be an exciting new addition to the Farmers Insurance Open. “We were inspired by similar ‘on the course’ concerts at other tournaments and this event is just one of the innovative ways we are appealing to broader audiences and engaging them at a PGA TOUR event. Most importantly, all of the proceeds benefit charity and will have a positive impact on children in our community through the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito.”

“We are proud to host this all new event in partnership with the PGA Tour, Farmers Insurance and the Century Club,” said Jason Rose, general manager and vice president of Waste Management of San Diego and Orange County. “Kelley James has such a huge following and it will be fun to see him perform on the 15th green and enjoy all of the other entertainment that night, too. And, our team at Waste Management will be working to make this event and the entire tournament ‘green’ as well.”
In addition to sponsoring the Saturday after party, Waste Management is providing waste and recycling receptacles and services and is working with organizers to help reduce the event’s carbon footprint. The company will pick up trash and recyclables using its environmentally friendly LNG-fueled trucks; recycle all commodities such as cans, paper and cardboard; and collect food waste that will be transformed into beneficial reuse.
Kelley James hinted that some of the golfers might even get in on the act.
“I’ve been playing PGA Tour events across the country this past year and it is amazing to see all of my fans enjoying entertainment on the course,” said James. “I’m excited to take the stage in San Diego and at one of the preeminent tournaments in golf. There are several golfers on the tour who are equally entertaining off the course, so don’t be surprised if they join me on stage for a song or two.”
