Online retailers are pushing harder than ever to provide consumers with their purchases before the holiday. Wordans is offering guaranteed shipping options until the 22nd of December.
With Christmas just around the corner, online retailers are pushing to provide consumers with their purchases on time. New phenomena like “Free Shipping Day”, scheduled for December 16th, are helping to introduce online shopping to a consumer base that is transitioning from the traditional retail experience. If recent trends, like the 8%+ increase in online shop visits over Black Friday weekend reported this week by the National Retail Federation are an indicator, the efforts of the e-commerce marketers are paying off.
Some retailers' online outlets, such as Sephora and OfficeMax have been posting order deadlines since last week for delivery by December 23rd 2011 on their home pages. Others, like custom apparel retailer Wordans.us, have implemented standard shipping countdown timers to their website so consumers know how much time they have to get their order in before the holiday . “Like many online retailers, we want to alleviate our customers' concerns related to delivery time with respect to the holiday season” said Eric Gautier, president of Wordans. “With the next day shipping option, orders can be placed until December 22nd at 3pm EST on a wide range of custom tees, hoodies and accessory items on our site. In fact, we are one of the few online retailers to offer a real 24 hour service.”
According to figures published by the National Retail Federation on December 14th, the average consumer had only completed 46.5 percent of their planned holiday purchasing by mid-December. Experts at the NRF are predicting a record month for online retail. This may be due, at least in part to the improvements in delivery times that e-commerce websites have been demonstrating in 2011 .
