Persia is home to one of the world's oldest civilizations and its storytelling traditions have helped to secure its cultural history. In the new story collection written and illustrated by Persian artist Mehry M. Reid, “Persian Legends: A Book of One Hundred and One Stories” (published by iUniverse), readers are beckoned into the captivating world of Persian folklore.
Persian folklore has been handed down from generation to generation for centuries in an effort to understand the past and pass on valuable lessons. Reid remembers sitting next to her grandmother as she relayed captivating stories adapted to express her own feelings, hopes, and desires. These stories, which her grandmother first heard from her own mother and grandmother, began Reid’s fascination with the Persian legends and folktales that she has selected and reinterpreted in “Persian Legends.”
“It is a collection of enjoyable stories with a diverse set of characters that will appeal to readers of all ages,” says Reid. “Many of the morals from the stories are timeless and will apply universally.”
Featuring 101 stories, “Persian Legends” shares a memorable collection of legends that provides a glimpse into Persian history while helping to preserve the legacy of folk literature for future generations.
