Energy and government affairs panel will discuss key parts of new law

In the wake of a new law regulating oil and gas production in the Marcellus shale, Steptoe & Johnson PLLC announces a special Keynote Webcast on the law and its affect on oil and gas developers. This free interactive webcast will be held on Monday, December 19, from noon until 1:00 p.m.

Energy Law Team Leader Sharon O. Flanery, environmental attorney Armando Benincasa and Government Affairs Coordinator Gil White will discuss key components of the new law including:

  •     Increased permit fees
  •     Well location restrictions
  •     Surface owner notice and compensation provisions
  •     Water use and wastewater handling
  •     Road use agreements and
  •     Enforcement authority of the Department of Environmental Protection

The West Virginia Legislature passed The Horizontal Well Act on December 14 after four days of debate during a special legislative session in Charleston. The Act is the first law passed in West Virginia governing production in the Marcellus shale.
