So in the matter of unpaid back taxes that are causing wage garnishments, bank levies and liens, tax professionals are standing by ready to help.

Every year things become more and more easy thanks to technology. The IRS recently submitted a newsletter stating “Currently, nearly 80 percent of individual tax returns are filed electronically. The IRS has processed more than 1 billion individual tax returns safely and securely since the nationwide debut of electronic filing in 1990.” In 2012, the IRS is now trying to enforce e-filing even more, making it mandatory. They state “If the requirement will cause undue hardship, preparers may seek a one-year waiver by submitting Form 8944, Preparer e-file Hardship Waiver Request. If a client wants to file a paper return, the preparer should include Form 8948, Preparer Explanation for Not Filing Electronically, with the return. A taxpayer choice statement should be obtained and kept with the preparer’s records.” This makes things much more efficient and allows the IRS to process the returns quickly. With the rest of the world trying to Go Green, it’s about time the IRS caught up. Perhaps they can start emailing their confusing, threatening notices as well.

On that note, however, e-filing is only possible for the current year. Filing back taxes online cannot be done. The deadlines pass very quickly year to year. So in the matter of unpaid back taxes that are causing wage garnishments, bank levies and liens, tax professionals are standing by ready to help. Many Americans should find themselves much more independent in filing their taxes with the new e-filing, but unfiled years that have gathered dust can be extremely intimidating. Luckily, tax professionals are able to file tax returns for any year and are very familiar with industry standard guidelines.
