PilotFish Technology Adds Human-Readable HL7 Segment, Component and Field Mapping to Its Suite of HIT Integration Capabilities
PilotFish Technology released its latest upgrade to its groundbreaking healthcare and HL7 interface engine IDE, the XCS eiConsole for Healthcare. The company’s latest enhancement, a “Friendly Name” function, dramatically speeds up HL7 data mapping.
Mapping and manipulating the widely-adopted HL7 2.x data standard is a common task for organizations in the healthcare ecosystem. Unfortunately, this very typical requirement when configuring an HL7 interface is also an arduous one. Message, Segment, Component and Field names used in HL7 2.x messages are cryptic and require expert-level knowledge to decipher on-the-fly. For those who have not memorized the standard, working with and mapping data to or from HL7 2.x involves the time consuming process of going back and forth between code and a vocabulary lookup tool.
The new “Friendly-Name” feature of the XCS eiConsole for Healthcare allows the developer or business analyst to bind HL7 messages to or from human-readable XML. While prior versions of the XCS eiConsole for Healthcare have offered this parsing and binding functionality, the latest release optionally replaces those cryptic HL7 names with simple, understandable synonyms derived from field descriptions in the appropriate version in the HL7 vocabulary.
When used in conjunction with the XCS eiConsole’s Data Mapper, users can create drag & drop data mappings using only the “friendly” versions of the HL7 field names. In combination with the ability to browse the in-line vocabulary and code table reference, the “Friendly Name” feature allows the user to focus on logically mapping their data – not keeping track of what a field is or how it is defined.
The “Friendly Name” function is just one of the innovative and productivity inducing HL7 features of the XCS eiConsole for Healthcare. This integrated HL7 interface development environment and the XCS eiPlatform for Healthcare interface engine provide the healthcare industry with a best of breed solution for HL7 integration and rapid interoperability.
