"It always felt like we were away from the rest of the world, says Murphy-Redd. We could relax."

Some houses are special. Some become homes. Kelly Murphy-Redd talked to Coldwell Banker about the Lake Oconee home for sale in Eatonton, Georgia in Waters Edge. "This house became home more than any other house we lived in and we have lived in quite a few," says Murphy-Redd.
She loves and misses this Putnam County home. Her parents moved away. It’s now for sale. Positioned on Georgia’s second largest lake, this three-story home, including walk-out basement, exudes warmth and comfort.
Murphy-Redd came to visit her parents often; especially at Christmas. She says it’s the perfect Christmas house. With 20-foot ceilings, any family can have the best Christmas tree ever. Banisters to decorate and two fireplaces help create that special feeling. "It always felt like we were away from the rest of the world, says Murphy-Redd. We could relax." Surrounded by nature, her niece, six years old at the time, liked the “atmosphere.”
It's a treat to sit on the porches or in the “keeping room” with its turret ceiling and rock in the rocking chair gazing out at the beautiful lake. Murphy-Redd remembers one day, she saw a bird standing on the other side of the lake, just at the shore; it’s feet in the water. She asked what kind of bird has white legs and a white head and realized it was a bald eagle. Never having seen one up close before; gorgeous.
Watching birds of all kinds, the fish jumping out of the water, the squirrels and chipmunks chasing each other created a sense of serenity and peace. The deer also come by occasionally. The family loved to take walks to the entrance of Waters Edge to see the horses. There is a barn complete with chandelier. They had fun feeding the horses and watching them go through their paces. Murphy-Redd's niece decided the little white pony liked her.
This home is 5400 square feet, with three bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths. Each bedroom has its own bath. But there are more bedroom and bath areas that can be finished on the third floor. Walking into the foyer the study is to the left. Walk straight into the great room with 20-foot ceilings and see spectacular views of the lake. To the right is the dining room, the eat-in kitchen and keeping room with fireplace. The master bedroom is on this floor. The master bedroom and keeping room both have stunning views of the lake. There is also a laundry room and large two-car garage. The garage has beautiful carriage doors.
Downstairs are two more bedrooms on either side of another family room with wet bar and fireplace. There is a bonus room with lots of storage and another workshop/storage area. The bedrooms have huge closets. The main floor has a deck and the downstairs a patio. Walk out into the backyard where dogwoods put on a stunning display in the spring and take the path to the dock and boat lift. .
Many live here year round while others have second homes or vacation homes. Whether it’s the breathtaking white Christmas they had last year or the stunning sunrises and sunsets on the lake, the Murphy family feels any time of year is perfect in this home on the lake. The surrounding dairy land is picture perfect. With its antebellum homes, other wonderful old buildings and quaint shops where shoppers always find a keepsake, the nearby historic town of Madison is a joy to visit. An antiquer’s paradise. but Walmart, Home Depot and Publix aren’t far if needed.
Lake Oconee is also well-known for its golf courses, including Harbor Club awarded by Golfweek "top 10 places to play in Georgia" in 2009 and the Golf Club at Cuscowilla ranked in the top 3 "Best Residential Courses" by Golfweek magazine since 2002. The Ritz Carlton Lodge is also here.
