This extra effort illustrates Houghton’s commitment to partner with the metalworking industry and our dedication to providing uncompromising, environmentally compatible solutions.
Valley Forge, PA (PRWEB) December 20, 2011
Volatile organic compound (VOC) restrictions being put in place by California’s South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) are sending the metalworking industry scrambling to get compliant by the January 1, 2012 implementation date. Houghton International Inc. understands this challenge and is partnering with industry businesses and providing guidance to help metalworkers and fabricators minimize downtime by reviewing their existing practices.
Houghton has been studying this regulation’s development since its inception in 2009 and has intimate knowledge of the test method used to determine VOCs in metalworking fluids. Houghton has tested its metalworking products that are sold or distributed within the SCAQMD to determine VOC content. As of January 1, each container of Houghton product covered by this rule will bear a new label indicating whether that product is acceptable for use within the SCAQMD. The company has also established the minimum dilution required for products to achieve compliance with SCAQMD regulations.
For customers who are unable to use their current metalworking fluids, Houghton offers a variety of low-VOC aqueous and water-soluble metalworking fluids that are “super-compliant” for use in the SCAQMD.
“Our technical representatives are well-apprised of the new SCAQMD regulations, and they are ready to help guide our customers to find replacement products,” said Jim McMahon, national sales manager, Houghton. “This extra effort illustrates Houghton’s commitment to partner with the metalworking industry and our dedication to providing uncompromising, environmentally compatible solutions.”
