Maranatha High School Finishes Strong at Speech and Debate Tournament

Maranatha High School, a Pasadena based high school, received high accolades at recent speech and debate tournament.

On Saturday December 10, 2011, Maranatha High School sent 30 students to compete in the Southern California Debate League Fall Varsity Speech Tournament at Arroyo High School in El Monte.

Maranatha students proved quite successful in the tournament, winning various awards. Senior PJ Dunn was awarded a trophy by finishing in 6th place for “Dramatic Interpretation.” Freshmen Romana Brennan won a trophy with a 3rd place finish in “General Interpretation.” Overall, the high school took home a 3rd place trophy as a team performance in the competiton.

The tough competition included nearly 1,000 students including Gabrielino High School, a nationally ranked school.

According to Patrick Mesisca, the Speech and Debate Coach at Maranatha High School, “We did well at the tournament, winning 3rd place as a team. Remember, we are only in our third year of competitive speech and debate at Maranatha.”
