With China accounting for a large portion of Transmission and Distribution expenses and having overtaken the United States as the world’s largest market for transmission and distribution equipment.

NRG Expert’s Electricity T&D Infrastructure and Technologies report and database shows that China is set to remain the world leader in demand for Transmission and Distribution equipment after a strong 2010. In 2010 Global demand for Transmission and Distribution equipment totaled over US$130 billion with China’s total coming in at just under 20% of that number.

NRG Expert forecasts that by 2015 the market will have grown by 33% thanks in large part to the replacement of old infrastructure and the increasing rollout of smarter grid technologies. Combined with NRG Expert’s metering report, the Electricity T&D Infrastructure and Technologies report and database reveals that the switch to Smart Grid technology is a major driver behind growth.

Fuelled also by resurgence in investment in green technologies, countries are introducing new technologies and overhauling their aging grid systems to be able to keep up with the higher demands placed on those networks.

“Whilst 2010 may not have been as good as once expected, the future looks good for companies in the transmission and distribution infrastructure sector” according to Max Krangle, Managing Director of NRG Expert. “A large portion of the growth is attributed to the metering sector and the transition to more advanced ‘smart-grid’ technologies”
