Taber Anderson is the new leader of Life Communities' Land Acquisition team, specializing in "diamond in the rough" land and building opportunities.

Underscoring the commitment of True Life Communities to seek out land and building opportunities in today’s market, a new member, Taber Anderson has joined to lead the firm’s Land Acquisition team. Taber will be spearheading acquisition efforts in California, Colorado and Arizona. His extensive 24-year background includes development of some of the most notable award-winning master plans in the Scottsdale and Phoenix submarkets: Desert Highlands, Desert Mountain, Superstition Mountain and Sun City Festival/Festival Ranch. His expertise covers real estate investment, acquisition and development finance, community development and both production and custom home building.

As a Managing Director with Crown Realty and Development of Southern California, Taber was responsible for the resort/residential division which acquired and developed the prominent $330 Million Montelucia Resort, Spa and Villas project in Paradise Valley/Scottsdale. Prior to that, Taber served five years as President of the Lyle Anderson Company in their investment, operating and development entities. Over 17 years with this iconic real estate investment and development firm, he held several project management and executive level positions. In addition to the award-winning communities in Phoenix and Scottsdale, Taber’s tenure with the Lyle Anderson Company also included development of the well-known master plans of Las Campanas in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Hokuli’a in Kona, Hawaii; and Loch Lomond in Luss, Scotland.

When asked what he considers when evaluating the current market acquisition opportunities Taber replied, “The diamond in the rough today is the opportunity to acquire strong submarket unentitled and partially entitled land positions that require reasonably patient capital coupled with a truly experienced entitlement team. By virtue of their mandates and shareholder sentiments about the overall economy today most public building companies can’t go after this type of acquisition. Smaller investors prefer simpler smaller opportunities because they can turn them faster; however, this can create too much competition for these types of projects and as a result drives acquisition prices to levels that are often not supported by market fundamentals. True Life Communities has the ability to go after the less obvious play and possesses the expertise to work through the due diligence and value-creation process effectively yielding attractive investment capital returns. We know how to back into the true land residual value and drive significant value from that basis.”

In exploring the potential of a future investment or development Taber considers what the community is lacking, what people are seeking that they can’t find and how to translate those tenets into value for both the consumer and True Life Communities. “We also diligently study our land so we can understand and appreciate what it’s telling us with the goal of creating communities that generate minimal environmental impact but maximize the potential. We want to create neighborhoods that exist harmoniously within the greater fabric of the community.” These principals mesh extremely well with the viewpoint of True Life Communities and Taber brings the expertise to ramp up land efforts and execute on this type of vision.

Taber received his Bachelor of Arts from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and performed selected studies in the Real Estate Development Master’s program at Columbia University in New York. Recently Taber has been a managing partner with New York based Columbus Nova Partners in the acquisition and entitlement of multiple real estate investments in the Southwest. Taber is accomplished in acquisition, finance, entitlements and master-planned communities. In addition to production and semi-custom home building, Taber also has experience in hospitality/residential mixed-use resorts.

Having such a broad background in the industry, Taber considered the opportunity to join the team at True Life Communities very appealing. “The team here is inspired by the changes in the economy today, rather than being put off by the demands. It’s necessary to change your way of thinking and to change the way you’ve done things in the recent past, because the market has shifted so dramatically.”, commented Taber. “It’s really an exciting environment and you can feel the energy in the conversations you have with everyone on the team. I’m excited at the future we can build.”

“Taber is a great fit for us,” said Scott Clark, Managing Member and CEO. “His background is not only stellar for the task of land acquisition, but he understands the market in several locations, not just California. This gives us the ability to move into other markets quickly as the tide turns.”

The company is currently building homes in Pleasanton, Hayward, Hayward Hills, Fair Oaks in Sacramento, and Blythe, California. Two new communities are slated to open in 2012, and the company also recently closed on 2 new land transactions in the Bay Area.
