After nominations had been made, Lillie was selected as one of twenty semi-finalist for this honor. Following a round of public voting she advanced with several others to the finalists round, and we are proud to announce that she was chosen as the winner of the 2011 Amazing Nurse Award. Lillie is an inspiration to all nurse and patient navigators, and she is truly amazing.

Lillie's passion for optimal patient care is an inspiration to all healthcare professionals, her unique perspective and dedication are two of the reasons why she is so deserving of this honor.

On December 11, 2011, Lillie D. Shockney, RN, BS, MAS, co-founder of AONN, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Oncology Navigation and Survivorship,, and administrative director of the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center, was awarded the 2011 Amazing Nurse Award from Johnson & Johnson. This honor is not only a great personal and professional accomplishment for Lillie, but also a great recognition of someone so involved in the development of patient navigation as a profession. She is the author of 13 books, an internationally known speaker and expert on Breast Cancer, and a cancer survivor.

During AONN’s Second Annual Navigation and Survivorship Conference in San Antonio, TX, Lillie shared her personal story of being a survivor during the inaugural Survivorship Keynote lecture. She moved everyone in the audience, recounting her journey, and inspired all to go the extra mile to provide the best patient care. “Lillie’s passion for optimal patient care is an inspiration to all healthcare professionals, her unique perspective and dedication are two of the reasons why she is so deserving of this honor,” said Sean T. Walsh, Executive Director of AONN.
