Richard Belle, continuing education manager of the Acadian CompaniesNational EMS Academy, has co-authored a textbook that will be used in EMS classes nationwide.

Advanced EMT: A Clinical Reasoning Approach is based on EMS educational guidelines introduced by the national registry to replace the Intermediate 1985 and 1999 curricula. Supplemental materials include a website for students, an instructor’s manual and a student resource textbook.

The textbook, written by Belle and Dr. Melissa Alexander of Lake Superior State University and published by Pearson, is the only first edition of an Advanced EMT text now on the market.

“We are especially proud to have three of our NEMSA instructors, Chris Mixon, Harry Murphy and Greg Mullen, as contributing authors in this important work,” Belle said.

For the past six years, Belle has contributed to many Pearson publications as a reviewer and an author. Now co-author of his first textbook, a project two and a half years in the making, Belle expects the second edition to be completed in 2015.
