While the 2011 season may have marked the fifth time Level 5 Motorsports driver / owner Scott Tucker has earned a national driving crown, it was also a year of firsts as he claimed his first race victory in the IMSA Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Series.
After making his debut in the L2 class at Road America circuit in August, Tucker and his Level 5 Motorsports team took their winning ways to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in September where Tucker swept both of the series’ events during the race weekend.
“It was a great weekend for us,” Tucker said. “It is great to get our first win in this series. In just our third race with these cars, it says a lot about this team and its ability to put quality cars on the track.”
Tucker continued his win streak as the series closed out the 2011 season at Road Atlanta in late September. Tucker again swept both races. He would also see the top of the podium in the American Le Mans Series as his LMP2 entry claimed both the race win and that series’ overall championship that same weekend.
“What a great way to end the year,” Tucker said. “The entire Level 5 organization has worked tirelessly all year to get wins. To celebrate the championship as well is proof that the hard work pays off!”
The 2011 championship followed Tucker’s 2010 Championship in the ALMS’ LMPC class. Level 5 moved to the LMP2 class in the ALMS in 2011 and also competed in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, where it celebrated its first podium at Le Mans in June.
“We will remember this year for a long time to come, that is for sure,” Tucker said.
Tucker has announced plans to return to the ALMS in the LMP2 class in 2012. As the Prototypes Lites series coincides with the ALMS event weekends, it is likely that Tucker will return to the track in that series 2012.
