Lone Star Western Decor, an online and catalog retailer providing western-themed bedding, furniture and other home decor, has launched an effort to add new video content to their website. Using the popular video hosting services Wistia and Treepodia, they are adding videos to around 40% of their products in the coming weeks with the goal of improving conversion rates, adding SEO (search engine optimization) value to their site and creating a deeper level of customer engagement.
The segments will feature the details of the products and capture their unique character using the video medium. Most of the featured products will be items like bath accessories and hardware, wall decor and other home decor accessories, with some furniture and bedding items included as well.
Website Magazine cites a study by video provider SundaySky in reporting that beginning in 2010, many retailers began to focus on using video to feature products on their e-commerce sites, and that online video has been shown to improve sales and reduce return rates. Lone Star anticipates that the new product videos will greatly improve their customers’ shopping as experience as well as sales.
On Treepodia’s website, they report that some of their customers have seen as much as a 300% increase in conversion as a result of including online videos for products and that sales for products featuring videos are up significantly. Likewise, Lone Star Western Decor’s sister store, Black Forest Decor, has seen a marked growth in conversions and time spent on the site since adding video.
