Rehabmart.com, an online e-commerce company that sells rehabilitation and medical supplies, has joined forces with McKie Splints, an innovative manufacturer of the McKie Thumb Splint, to offer this helpful and cleverly designed rehabilitation product to more consumers. Ann McKie, an occupational therapist who worked with developmentally disabled children in Minnesota, said she was divinely inspired by love for the children she served when she began to design this special thumb splint. The U.S. Patent Office granted her a patent for her unique design in 1996. She completed her masters thesis research on the splint's effectiveness in 1997 and in 1998, Ms. McKie received her Masters in Therapeutic Science from the University of Wisconsin.

She began the McKie Splints company at the urgent behest of therapists and parents of children who had used the first splint prototypes and loved them. The splint utilizes the concepts of balancing muscle pull and strengthening weaker muscles through everyday use, which are ever emerging concepts in the field of neuro-rehab. The splint is now being used by infants, children and adults. It has a wide variety of applications including cerebral palsy, Erb's Palsy (brachial plexus injury), stroke, orthopedic conditions, thumb pain and cumulative trauma. Sized for infants as young as 3 months old, the McKie Thumb Splint supports more normal grasp development during the critical first year of life.

“We are very pleased to offer this innovative thumb splint to our customers.” said Hulet Smith, Founder and CEO of Rehabmart. “We believe that our customers will be absolutely delighted with the comfort, ease and efficacy of the McKie Thumb Splint. Ms. McKie's love for her pediatric clients inspired the design and research has continued to prove the positive results of this beneficial and useful product."
