As always, there is so much regret and grief in letters that are unwritten; in stories that are unformed. On most days, one remembers a lot and sometimes, one recalls a little. In moments where the latter occurs, one can simply marvel at the memories and look back via a photograph, letter or a painting.
In Moving Forward, poet Thomas C. Smith pockets memories and freezes moments through poetry. His latest collection of lyrical prose subtly weaves the unarticulated - unstated apologies, unsaid thank yous and unspoken pain. No matter what one’s reasons are for leaving everything unstated, Smith, through his well-crafted verses, reminds readers that life is really all about moving forward and letting go.
Written throughout the span of Smith’s life, Moving Forward began from just words to stories, personal thoughts and God. These poems evoke visceral emotions, with the hope to uplift and inspire. “My journey has been filled with life’s up and downs,” Smith says. “My poems reflect the joys and sorrows experienced. Some of them you may have experienced. Most important for me is that Jesus is my constant companion who rejoices with me in the good times and carries me through the hard times.”
