Illustrated by William Wynn, “The Steps a Young Woman Must Take” was inspired by Anderson’s personal experiences.
“I held pain within myself for years,” remembers Anderson. “During an attempt to commit suicide, God spoke to me: ‘write it down.’” Anderson accepted the challenge. “I spent every spare moment writing about the only thing I knew, my pain. Eighteen months later it was finished.”
Targeted to girls ages 7 to 14, “The Steps a Young Woman Must Take” details the changes girls may experience physically and emotionally as they grow older.
“Teenage pregnancy, low self-esteem, sexual permissiveness, lack of self-respect and out right vulgarity has become a wide spread issue among young women in today’s society,” says Anderson. “Parents are beginning to look for help and solutions.”
Anderson aims to provide many of these solutions in “The Steps a Young Woman Must Take,” as she explains to readers the importance of honoring the natural progression of life.
“I go deeper than just detailing the changes of a girl’s body,” explains Anderson. “I encourage self-value, self-confidence, education, verbal expression and parental discussion. I’d like for my readers to be encouraged, informed and confident and to develop unbreakable self-esteem and self-awareness.”
