Will Address How to Protect Company Trade Secrets

Given today’s communication technologies and the speed at which information can be duplicated and moved, protecting trade secrets is an everyday challenge.

eTERA Consulting’s John Rubens, Managing Director of Corporate Analysis, will join distinguished panel speakers from Ciena and Lockheed Martin at the February 17th Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) General Counsel Committee program on Protecting the Company Jewels – Avoiding the Loss of Valuable Trade Secrets. The panel speakers will share their perspectives and insights on several important topics, including best practices to preserve trade secrets, record keeping requirements and establishing the existence of a trade secret, use of technology to prevent loss, and issues concerning network access.

“The opportunity to address NVTC member companies and their general counsels on the important topic of protecting valuable company trade secrets from a technology perspective is very timely,” said John Rubens. “Given today’s communication technologies and the speed at which information can be duplicated and moved, protecting trade secrets is an everyday challenge. When used strategically, trade secrets often provide a significant competitive advantage in the marketplace. Further, trade secrets can be central to the creation of a market niche. Those companies who successfully protect their trade secrets will also strengthen other intellectual property assets.”

The Northern Virginia Technology Council is the membership and trade association for the technology community in Northern Virginia. As the largest technology council in the nation, NVTC serves about 1,000 companies from all sectors of the technology industry, as well as service providers, universities, foreign embassies, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies.
