Xlibris, the print-on-demand self-publishing services provider, announced today the release of The Souvenir. Authored by Johnny Gaskins, this book follows the chain of alarming events that unfold in the lives of two young men tested by fate and time.

Roger and Royce are twins who were mates on their father’s charter fishing boat since they were six years old. Roger goes to college at Berkeley to pursue his dream of becoming an attorney, but Royce on the other hand is drafted and sent to Vietnam. Roger becomes close friends with John Ellis at Berkeley. They live in a commune with Matt who leads protests against the Vietnam War. Matt wants the president to bring American troops home and is upset when the president refuses. John Ellis is also angry with the president because his brother Ray was killed in Vietnam, and then Roger learns that Royce is also killed there. Roger deals with his loss in his own way, but John Ellis has something else in mind. He flunks out of Berkeley and becomes a fugitive draft dodger.

On August 8, 1968, the country is stunned by the assassination of the president. He is killed by a sniper who leaves his rifle behind but keeps the fired shell casing as a souvenir. FBI Deputy Director Roy Thomas heads the investigation but has no leads. Roger becomes a successful criminal defense attorney, and he and Agent Thomas meet in many contentious cases throughout the following years. They become bitter adversaries. The assassination of the president remains unsolved for thirty years. Modern technological advances in law enforcement eventually lead to the arrest of John Ellis. He retains his old college friend to defend him. The assassin has hidden the souvenir and its location is revealed at trial. But is John Ellis really the assassin? Has he been framed for something he didn’t do? Did someone else do it? The souvenir will tell the tale.

Filled with gripping encounters and intriguing characters THE SOUVENIR is a fast-paced, breathtaking action-mystery that will hook readers until the last page. For more information on this book, interested persons may log onto http://www.xlibris.com.
