Three Marriott Walnut Creek Team Members Earn Prestigious Employee of the Year Honors

Craig Elser, Joaquin Flores and Tania Cruz all recognized for their dedication to service in their respective fields of expertise.

The Marriott Walnut Creek hotel, in the heart of San Francisco’s East Bay, has awarded exclusive Employee of the Year honors to three of the year’s top performers.

Windsor Management Services, the hotel management company of Santa Monica-based WCG Hotels, operates the Marriott Walnut Creek. The firm manages nearly 30 upscale hotels throughout the U.S.

The award winners are:

  •     Sous Chef Craig Elser named 2010 Manager of the Year.
  •     Banquet Server Joaquin Flores named 2010 Front of the House Associate.
  •     Room Inspectress Tania Cruz named 2010 Heart of the House Associate of the Year.

“Our entire team is dedicated to providing each guest with service that exceeds their expectations,” said Norval Nelson, General Manager of the Marriott Walnut Creek. “To have three of our team members recognized by their peers as Employees of the Year in their respective fields of expertise is a great honor and I am proud of them!”

Associates were nominated by their colleagues and after careful consideration, the final selection was made by the Hotel’s Executive Committee. The winners were announced at the Walnut Creek Marriott's annual Associate of the Year Luncheon, held Jan. 27, 2011 in the hotel’s luxurious California Ballroom. Each recipient received a cash prize and assorted gift certificates as well as a trophy and letters of appreciation from Nelson and Windsor Management Services President and COO Bill Upshaw.

Elser was nominated for his outstanding leadership qualities, professionalism and passion for service. Nelson added, “Craig performs his duties with humor and enthusiasm, no matter what kind of situation is thrown at him. He consistently demonstrates great management skills inside and outside of the kitchen.” Elser has been at the hotel for eight years.

In his three years at the Marriott Walnut Creek, Flores has been a star performer who takes ownership of his job, shows enthusiasm and a can-do attitude in all situations. “Joaquin’s performance, including his willingness to help guests and lead co-workers, has set a strong example for us all,” said Nelson.

Cruz demands high standards from her team and unifies everyone to deliver a quality product to guests. “Tania is admired by her co-workers and has set a strong example by demonstrating enthusiasm and leading by example,” said Nelson. She has been at the Marriott Walnut Creek for three years.
