Stephen Burns Joins B. E. Smith as Vice President, Project Leader

B. E. Smith recently appointed Stephen Burns as vice president, project leader for the firm’s Interim Leadership and Consulting Solutions divisions. An accomplished healthcare executive with more than 30 years of experience in clinical operations and program development in a managed care environment, he will assume his new duties at B. E. Smith immediately.

B. E. Smith recently appointed Stephen Burns as vice president, project leader for the firm’s Interim Leadership and Consulting Solutions divisions. An accomplished healthcare executive with more than 30 years of experience in clinical operations and program development in a managed care environment, he will assume his new duties at B. E. Smith immediately.

Burns will lead a number of interim and consulting leaders nationwide who provide leadership solutions for B. E. Smith clients. He brings a proven track record for protecting and improving quality of care, decreasing overall costs and ensuring regulatory compliance, according to Deirdre Byrne, senior vice president of Interim and Consulting Services, B. E. Smith.

Prior to joining B. E. Smith, Burns held executive leadership roles including chief nursing officer/senior vice president of patient care services and chief operating officer. During his career, Burns has provided leadership for a wide range of healthcare services, including nursing, perioperative and emergency services, behavioral health, respiratory and cardiology, pharmacy, imaging and laboratory services, wellness, police and fire clinic, and student health services.

Burns earned a master of business administration degree from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, Calif., and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Florida International University in Miami, Fla. He is a Johnson and Johnson Fellow of the Wharton Business School for Nurse Executives and is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE).
