Mutiny, scurvy, parrots, and monkeys take over the game lab to create hilarious new Fluxx edition

Pirates never go out of style, and these days they're more popular than ever," said Kristen Looney

It’s been rough sailing for many small companies in this economy, but independent game publisher Looney Labs has found an innovative way to stay afloat. Piracy. They’ve adapted their hit game Fluxx (“the card game of ever-changing rules”) to fit a pirate theme, and they’re poised to rake in the booty.

“Pirates never go out of style, and these days they’re more popular than ever,” said Kristin Looney, president of Looney Labs. The summer release of a new Disney pirate-themed movie and a Pirate-themed cartoon headlining a new Disney Jr. channel have revived the spirit of piracy for all ages. “The timing couldn’t be better,” Looney continued.

Fluxx has sold almost a million copies and spawned over a half-dozen variants in the eleven years since Looney Labs’ inception in 1996. “The chaotic nature of Fluxx, with its ever-changing rules is a perfect fit for the lawlessness of the pirate lifestyle – and the perfect way to introduce the new ‘Surprise!’ card type, “ said game designer Andrew Looney, “Surprise! cards can be played out of turn to stop another player’s play – a totally new concept for Fluxx.”

In addition to a completely new card type, Pirate Fluxx will have players talking like a pirate, collecting treasures, or trying to grab the coveted Captain’s Hat, all while trying to meet fluctuating winning conditions. That may sound hard to a landlubber, but only days after its release, many fans and retailers are declaring that Pirate Fluxx may be the best Fluxx yet.
